Still have remnants around here. Shallow wells from the 30s and before where they went crazy drilling a bunch of holes in one spot. The engine, big flywheels, and the jerker all sat under a roof. The building had a spot for the pumper to live in. Not hard to find where they ran a dozen wells off one unit. Rod guides sticking up went to each hole.

There shouldn't be oil all over the ground.
