Dell Vostro 1500 was working fine

Windows update ran and installed 17 new items and demanded I restart computer. Never had any problems before now when I restart I get this screen below.

Can't start in safe mode can't do anything except to get this blue screen can't read off CD drive or anything

Am I totally out of luck on this laptop now ? Can't get anywhere to remove recently installed updates or disable or anything. Even tried using last known good configuration and nothing happens always get to this blue screen.

Did I mention I hate Windows update it always screws something up for me on my computers.
