This was not from Sloan's, but is a source I would probably consider to be a similar tier quality-wise. I would guess there could be overlap in who those companies use to actually manufacture parts, but hard to say without inside info.

The supplier should never well around a shaft to a pipe. The proper way is to plug weld it, which you added and that is why it held.


I'm not an expert welder or metallurgist, but my suspicion is it may have been welded too hot and made the tube brittle right next to the weld. When we were fixing it in-season I think we looked at the old augers and they were just welded around the end without any signs of plug welds. Fairly certain they were original to the combine, and lasted 21 seasons,
