West TN | I used the cotton closing wheels from Shoup on my Kinze 3600 planter for 3 years until I bought a new planter last year. My new 3600 also has cotton closing wheels on it.
I really like them in all conditions. We plant cotton, corn, and soybeans in high biomass cover crops and they work really well in all conditions.
The biggest benefit to them is there’s no constantly adjusting the arms to keep them centered over the row like you have to with the V style closing wheels.
If you buy the ones from Shoup and plant no till I would advise you to drill out the holes that the disc mount bolts to from 5/16” to 3/8” and use grade 8 bolts with lock nuts. I did have problems with those bolts breaking and/or working loose. | |
