Texas | I have been checked by the DOT more times than I can remember in multiple states. Roadside inspections and at scale houses. When it comes to weight all they care about are that you are not over your registered weight, axle weights, and tire ratings. They never seem to be concerned about GVWR except to determine if you need a CDL or not. I don’t think you will have any issues with the DOT in the scenario you described.
The one concern you need to have is if you were in a bad wreck. The lawyers will eat you alive if you were over the manufacturer’s GVWR. | |
