Subject: RE: Pwm pump or servo valve on liquid system on planter

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have been doing that with my recent sprayer and when spraying with the planter. This has worked fine. I just run the hydraulics out from the tractor to deliver a bit more flow than is ever needed.

The PWM approach is fine but I'm not so sure about making the pump last longer. With a PWM control in the hydraulic line, a low limit offset is usually needed to keep the pump turning at a rate fast enough to produce flow when all the sections are off. If this is not done there would be no agitation which is often desirable or necessary. Also if the pump is a centrifugal pump and allowed to slow down considerably there would be a time lag until flow is produced when application resumes.

The Deere SP sprayer I had in the past used a hydraulic drive system. The Hagie I will be using next season has a valve on the hydraulic pump also so there are a variety of ways that can work.
