Jr. was seeking revenge I don't think Matt killed the trader, he promised the young indian the man would be tried and probably hung. Matt let the Indian kid leave and promised him that that the fur trader would be prosecuted. The Indian kid was surprised that Matt let him leave. Matt told him he had to come back and testify in (I think 2 weeks) and as earlier in the story there was a question of trust when the Indian asked him if Matt trusted him to return, Matt said something to the effect that friends trusted each other. |
