E.Central MN | Here the good Allis dealers took on other brands during or after the Deutz fiasco, with New Holland being the one I see most often. Later on some picked up McCormick or Versatile. Can't blame them one bit. I don't think the Deutz engine was so much the problem (except for high priced Deutz parts). The problem was the rest of the tractor, especially the weak transmissions in some of them, and of course the ugly color. If Deutz had phased in their engine as an option or along side the 8000 series I think it might have worked. Instead they totally wrecked their image in the farm equip market. Their motors actually worked pretty good in skidloaders and in construction equipment. Part of the dealer problem was that a big chunk of their dealers were small dealerships with very few multi location stores. That made them even more vulnerable to a radical change to their product line during a farm crisis economy. It's still that way to a certain extent. | |
