central - east central Minnesota - | IADAVE - 1/13/2021 18:14 I see there is some welding on an excavator boom. No patch. Just a length of weld about 8-10 inches long in a couple places on the side of the stick. No reinforcement. Is it possible this was done to straighten the boom? It looks to me like if a crack was repaired the crack would start on the edge, not in the webbing ( middle). Boom looks straight to me. I would be concerned - if not properly welded, it could create breakage, damage to boom, machine and possible body . .. There's a guy, down the road a piece, that is certified to weld booms and mostly crane booms - he has some real stories of "amateur" welding on such that OSHA found and shut the work down. |
