Subject: RE: Low pop rate in beans

SE MN

This year we dropped 90k on everything except for one field that we did variable rate on.  In one of our flat rate fields we did a small strip at 40k.  When we combined that strip it averaged just slightly less than the 90k.  Maybe 1 to 2 bu per acre.  There were areas in that 40k population that yielded 78 bu/ac.  We will probably seed around 85k next year and continue to play with variable rate.  I do believe that I need to lower all the rates down on my variable rate fields.  2020 we ranged from 85k - 135k.  I think as a whole most people are planting beans to thick but I am painting with a broad brush when I say that.  We are on 20" rows.
