Here is the skinny: it all depends on seed size to determine which plates you want. The regular milo plates work good when the seed is larger, like 1100O-14000 seeds per pound. Once you start getting smaller seed, like 14500 seeds per pound and up, you start getting a lot of doubles and overpopulation due to the size of the cells-that’s when it’s time to switch to the sugarbeet plates. On the flip side the sugarbeet plates can result in skips and too low of rate if used for larger seed. If I’m not sure which to use I set the plates flat on the floor and put some seed on there to see how each seed fits in the cells. If 2 seeds fit comfortably in a cell then it’s time to switch to the sugarbeet plate. I believe I have the large sugarbeet plates which are the best for milo. I have a set of each because seed size can vary quite a bit between companies and hybrids.
