Subject: RE: ISOBUS - CANBUS (explanation for dummy’s)

Just two wires for Can Bus....Can Hi and Can Lo. Think of the two wires as mirror images of each other that the controllers send messages to/from each other. The terminators keep the messages from bouncing back and forth on the system.

In regards to the 5 volt setup. The voltages of the 2 wires should add up to 5 volts. Generally speaking, the more communication going on in between will result in more voltage difference between the 2 wires. With little communication going on, both wires should be approx. 2.5 volts apiece; the more communication going on, the Can Hi will get higher, the Can Lo will get lower(3 volts on Hi, 2 volts on Lo).

Also, there are different ISOBUS systems as well. Regular ISOBUS allows communication between tractor/implement; ISOBUS 3 allows the implement to control certain functions of the tractor(ie, a baler may command a tractor to speed up to keep it full).
