The amount of data and control info that can be sent over two wires (digital encoding-CAN buss, bidirectionally at that) versus analog is beyond what most of us can grasp. Like has been said, the on/off and power connections to solenoids and such is separate from the control signals, thus the extra wires. Need to have both. PS, that GPS signal with all that positional and speed info is also coming in on just two wires from the receiver.
