A 466 cu.in. engine is the same displacement as 7.6L , but in John Deere engines they are NOT the same. The 466 belt drive water pump engines were used thru the 40 series Waterloo tractors. The 466 gear drive water pump were used in the 50 series. The 7.6 engine was the main feature of the 55 series and used in the 60 series till the end of production. The 7.6 engine is a kind of a "Big Cam" type Cummins deal, as the cam bearing diameter increased so the cam lobe size could be larger. Increased air flow by different valve timing profile, larger turbocharger, different exhaust manifold and new head engineering. Lots of different internal engine parts. The 7.6 platform continued into the 81, 82 and 8300 tractors to serial number 10,000. Are 7.6L engines good, you bet. Also, the 7.6 was used in 9000 series combines, but never in a 66, 77 or 8820.

X2. Are 466 engines good?? Absolutely. But the 466 engine is not to be confused with a 7.6L

A 7.6L is a 466 on steroids. The 7.6L is superior in every way.
