Subject: RE: Versatile 550DT tractor- any information

Jeffersonville, OH
We have sold 4 or 5 of the Delta Trac Versatiles. Run some on the same farms as Case Quad's. What I hear, is the track system is more reliable on the Versatile, and rides better in the field than a Quad, but the Case does ride better on the road. I do NOT have any Delta's out with Cab suspension yet. As far as pulling, and power, One 550 Delta is on the same farm as a 620 Quad Trac, and they say the Case does have a bit more power, but it's not nearly as reliable as the Vers. More emissions problems, and bogey wheels launching themselves off the track system. Another one replaced a 575 Wheeled Versatile, and it pulls his 15 Shank Sunflower 4511 a gear faster, and 2" deeper than the 575 would, but it was always traction limited, not power.

From my standpoint on the dealer side, Tracks are nice in the fact that they just go out, and pull AND float, and a customer can't jack with the air pressure in the tires and screw anything up. There are a few more parts involved, but the tracks on a Delta have been very reliable, I think I have only sold 2 bogey wheels for a Delta Trac, and that's it. They are expensive, but they flat out work. We are still probably a 50/50 split on new tractors wither being tires or tracks. Our biggest Versatile customer has 6 of them, and only 1 Delta Trac. It was what we had in stock at the time he was ready to trade, and while all his guys like the tracks, they aren't really pulling it hard enough to see the benefits, so he is still buying tires simply for the cost savings. If you need to get max effort from a big 4wd, tracks are the way to go...although I am hearing great things from LSW's.
