Subject: RE: Versatile 550DT tractor- any information

Neighbors has a 450DT & we have a tired 550. Neighbor pulls a tracked 1,000 + bu grain cart & a Versatile high speed with their. They say it rides rough on the rode but good in the field. They pull the disc around 12 mph. Complaint on both tractors is the CAT powershift, they can be aggravating from Neutral to Rev or Forward. Dash will show its in gear but sometimes its not so have to shift back to N then back into gear, maybe 2 or 3 times. Also need to have the engine speed up taking off under heavy load, like after backing in a corner & lowering the disc ripper. To low of an 3ngine speed & it will drop out of gear. Been meaning to ask the dealer if there's a calibration for this.

This is our 3rd Versatile 4wd, other two were a 9282 & a 2360. Cab is noiser than the other two but did find the flex tube had a hole burnt thru. Son put a new tube on, over $2,000.00 & said it is quieter, I haven't ran it since the tube was put on but can't say how much. We traded a Steiger 435 for the 550. The 435 had a lot more bells & whistle but if you're wanting cheap hp its hard to beat a Versy. Our 550 has 800 Michlens , traction is amazing, I've only used the dif lock one time pulling our 18' 870. Will pull the 870 11-12" deep in Sable, heavy black, & Ipava loams, black, at 6.5 mph with engine set at 1850 rpms.
