Northeast Iowa | Deere sent a Tama rep and two 20-something engineers out in 2014 or so to put on a test system to apply B-Wrap with automation on a 6000R Series tractor. Sounded good, but the minute you touched the brake pedal, automation turned off. The tractor wouldn't stay in position and rolled back toward the dumped bale if there was any slope in the field. The wrap itself was okay for preserving quality compared to plain wrap, but you only get 35 bales per roll, and they're heavy rolls to be changing that often.
One of the youngsters hit the Wrap button while they were getting stuff set up in the yard. The baler was empty and running at the time. That meant they got to get their knife out and cut all the net wrap off the pickup attachment that had wrapped around it. The Tama guy used to work for Deere and did a good job of maintaining his composure. We killed a couple hours on the setup when it should have taken 15-30 minutes tops. By the time we were ready to bale, we didn't get more than a third of the field before the hay was tough. What bales we did make ended up holding water in the bottom of them much worse than the regular wrap on both adjoining rows. Those bales ended up being the cheapest hay I've ever sold at an auction in 25 years. Never used B-Wrap again and have no plans to do so. | |
