don't know about the deere, but we changed to a floating hitch on a 45' case. I would say it goes through wet conditions as good if not better than a level lift. I was hesitant to change but glad we did.
Sounds like a poor design by deere to have both inner and outer wing depth controlled by one set of lift wheels.
