Subject: Re: Harvest has changed over the years

Kingston, Iowa
In the 70's and early 80's, before he started farming on his own, my dad worked for a sizeable operation for the time. They had several farms of a couple hundred acres spread around 2 counties. Their system was to move portable dryers to each farm and dry the corn on site before putting it in the bin. This involved 2 Behlen batch dryers with the tractors to run them, a 1000 bu wet holdng bin, at least 2 augers and tractors, 8 wagons with a tractor or 2 to pull them around and 2 combines.
When they moved to a farm it was a full day ordeal. I think we have a simpler time of it now.
