Western Oregon | I have rolled miles by hand. Make a big loop, 4' tall is about right for me. Bigger the better, more feet per wind. Cross the wire over itself as you roll the "spool" on the ground. The barbs catch on the roll and hold it together. I did find it easier to have a little baling wire to start, just band together every 2-3 wraps for a bit until the mass gets all caught up together. The more you "wobble" the wraps back and forth the better it holds together. Once you get the hang of it , it goes pretty well. Take your time, the slower, the faster and easier, the better you get. Grandpa taught me how to do it. Actually, with the barbs, it is easier than the old bean wires in the green bean fields, back in the day. Smooth wire has nothing to catch on.But I got pretty good at that after a while....James | |
