mid Illinois | The edges around the fields are the worst here for diplodia damage due to insects. I am thinking about shelling the outside rows off, and dump back on the ground. Anybody here doing that? Sad to think you have whole sections of corn fields with no market value. If corn was dry, I would just put in a separate bin, and try to do something with it later. But it has to be dried, and that is the problem.
editing added; (should have mentioned that this particular field has ditches around it, and I can just take off the outside 2 rows, so total bushels lost would not be very much since it is heavily insect damaged anyway. With the severe discounts at present, it sure isn't worth binning. Wish I now had some livestock to feed it to. Well, with the prices of hogs and cattle, maybe not. LOL )
