| Thorough, extensive, time consuming, real world pre-launch testing (field and lab) of any new product generally makes for a mostly trouble free first build and happy customers for followup units.
Skimp on - or even eliminate - testing and the product is almost guaranteed to be a mess and flop. People get lazy and cut corners. Sloppy management leads to things not getting done. People make assumptions they shouldn't and egos and big mouths can dominate a flawed process. Engineers and engineering managers lose track of their job descriptions and morph into salesmen. Marketing people always push for early launches - and skipped tests - to boost sales short term while ignoring the long term market effects of building poor products. Maybe you can get tobasco to name some examples.
