I have the same spreader and tried to figure out a way to do it on the cheap too. Put down some sheets of thin plywood (like for sub flooring), but that just started peeling after one season so I bought a plastic liner. Should have just done that in the first place. I got mine from https://osseoplastics.com It was pretty easy to install.
