50 years ago a family each month spent 2 weeks pay for food, one weeks pay for rent or house payment, one weeks pay for necessities like clothing, and the months with 5 weeks therm was some extra money for entertainment.
The California Advertisement about milk from happy cows has a point. If the livestock are not comfortable and eating well there will not be much in the way of a monitory reward.
There are a number of things up in Canada that may be questionable. Still there is one law in British Columbia that restricts development on land that will grow crops or timber appears to me to be a good idea.
Are there people around that are land exploiters? For sure! I can show you some not far from where I sit. Who? Raised on a farm 70 years ago, got into insurance sales and bought land and tried to starve a profit. Does not work real well.
