Southern MN
24” minimum. You need someone in the hole to check grade and pull off the high spots with a shovel. Not much fun working in a narrow hole. If you are somewhat decent you should be able to get it within a 1/2 inch, being in a hurry does not work, under dig it a little when installing small tile and the person in the hole can dig a shallow trench easily for final grade and a good base for the bottom of the tile. Over digging in spots is a lot more work than under digging a little. Sand is not much fun and a lot harder to maintain grade. Larger mains excavator operator should be able to do grade well enough that the man in the hole doesnt have to do much shovel work.
That size machine I would think 30” would be about minimum you could even get to fit it?
