Braham MN.
The small plunger is the idle switch. You should hear it click when you step on the pedal. Little trick is to bend the tab on the pedal so the switch clicks just as you start yo press pedal. Helps to take the jump and sudden rpm rise when depressing pedal. The actual throttle sensor is very top of pedal, three wire.

The OD off light is 100% trans issue, the throttle pedal will never cause the OD off light to flash. Although a bad ICP reading will cause it to flash randomly. A bad signal from the speed sensor will throw then for a loop too.

I suggest cleaning the connection on the left side of the trans where the shift cable connects, clean the sensor on the top of the rear diff too.

If your lucky you've got chaffed wires in the steering column causing the light to flash and pissing off the PCM and giving the check engine light.
