NW Central Ohio
...I decided to do a little investigating....to see exactly what shovel I've been using. It's a CNH part number 602595R3. This shovel equates in size (and appearance) to a Nichols RA6 S. They both measure 3/8" thick...have half inch holes that are centered from 2 1/4" to 2 1/2". Now....the Nichols web site that I visited...says they have a different shovel of the same size and bolt pattern....that is 1/2" thick. The part number is RA8 HF. I think that would definitely be a good idea if you want them to last. Believe me, they pull pretty hard...but they do throw some dirt! I would still hard face them....I don't know if the above poster has tried welding up the back sides of a shovel yet or not...but I believe they wear smoother and don't create as much draft. It's a question of your own experience. I'm now going to be looking for another type that we used to use...because it was a thin one...that actually wore better than the ones from CNH that I have been using.
