Subject: RE: JD 4430 burning up clutches

1 hour east of ol cheyenne
Something else to check when split check thrust bearings inside of engine. Should be able to put a bolt on crank flange and pry back and forth to check thrust bearing in engine. If the crank is moving away from transmission excessively it could cause loss of holding pressure on clutch disc.
Did they check flywheel to make sure it is not turned beyond spec? They can be turned too far down and cause problems with adjustment and/ or clamping force. Are they similar to older dry clutch flywheels where the clutch surface AND the outer rim must be taken down the same amount? I have never had a perma clutch apart so I am just asking. If someone turned down the clutch surface and not the rim it could really shorten the clutch's service life and screw up the geometry involved I would think.
