CNY | We have 2 7280R’s and run triple mowers on both of them. One of them we plant with, run a 16 row 1770NT fine with 600 gallons on saddle tanks. 24 row might be a bit of a stretch on some of our hills. Runs a 30’ 1990 CCS like it’s not even there. Cabs are great (the subwoofers really bump), nothing really crazy has happened with ours as far as repairs out of normal wear stuff (both have IVT trans, 4-6000 hours).
However, there is one thing about these that is AWFUL. Whoever designed the front end under the hood should be shot, because apparently they think changing the alternator belt is a daily service item, not blowing the radiator out. We are fanatical about blowing them out thoroughly every day but when running the mowers it’s not enough. Have to stage the 185 cfm compressor a couple fields ahead of where the mowers start so they can blow out. They run HOT when mowing, usually too hot. We take the radiators out in the winter and steam clean and if we have rain days between cuttings do it in the summer. Neighbors who have had the same problems have all moved to 8r’s when they traded. We will for the ONLY reason being the 8r’s have the radiator in front where it should be. Doesn’t do any good to complain to your friendly JD salesman because he will just sit there with a dumb grin happy to sell you a tractor that’s $30K more to do the same job.
All that being said I would not buy a 7r for triple mowers, only an 8r, from experience
