Probably could say we all need a bit of variety in our work: physical/mental, theoretical/real etc.

When we get out of balance the other side of the fence looks even greener....

However I do think that fencing is a somewhat unique task in that the quality is very dependent on the skill, knowledge and character of the person putting it up.
