So my take is, bloat is not a breed specific problem. But rather an individual cow that can be culled along with her female offspring. The steers will be eliminated from these females after harvest. If breeding bulls can also carry this trait, how is a buyer to know or find out about this problem. I don't believe any one has this info on EPD's or even considers it when making breeding selections.


All cattle can bloat. Some cattle seem to be more suseptible to the problem, but you can never totally eliminate it. I think it's just a matter of doing everything you can feed-wise to limit the possibility and taking a few minutes a day to watch your cattle, look them over and see how they look and act.
