I worked for a fresh market producer in Southern Mn in the 1960's and 70's. He purchased 2 self propelled pickers made for fresh market corn. Stalks were grabbed by V belts above the ear and cut off with rotating rotary blades. Made in Belle Glade Florida by Boots Machine shop. I think one of them eventually ended up in the Lake Erie area, but I never heard of them again. Worked pretty well.
