southern MN | No news is good news. It’s been quiet the past 48 hours so it must be doing fine for now. I believe the high water mark is supposed to be there about now.
Some time ago it got pretty full pretty fast and ‘something’ crushed or broke or overflowed and got worrisome. They opened the gates and got things lowered and appear to be ok for now. It didn’t sound like the dam itself was in any danger it actually had quite a few more feet of capacity, but something was damaged along the way, maybe just some turbines. It’s China, they don’t say......
They got three heavy rains across the rivers that feed it, if they had gotten a 4th I believe they were running out of places to move the water.
As it is, quite a few people got moved and a fair amount of flooding took place.
The international community was putting 30% odds on the dam (more likely some extra feature around the dam) failing in some way, that is fairly serious.
