South Eastern VA | I have a couple late season food plots I do every year for deer season doing the same thing you’re asking about.
1-2 acre plots back in the woods and what not.
Weeds will be 12-20 inches high, spray with the “glug glug measurement of glyphosate and surfactant.
Broadcast beans next day. Weeds die and lay over, protect beans and theY grow perfectly and pop right up through the dead matter.
This is usually September time frame so my temps are a bit lower at night and moisture isn’t a problem. Once beans are up and growing well I’ll spread some cereal rye or wheat and maybe some brassicas...typically whatever seed I can find in the garage goes in the mix.
Hard to beat for getting Those a-hole deer in bow range. Lol | |
