Marshfield, WI | Every winter the county's around me work together and have self certification classes where you do the work and they sign off at the end. This is Clark, Marathon and Wood offered in January, February and March. They also offer a refresher course mixed in at the same time. The cost of the class is reimbursed at the end with the completion of your plan. I take the refresher course every other year to learn the new short cuts as Snap Plus is updated almost every year. Make sure all your soil tests are no older than 4-5 years old from an approved lab. I use the UW lab because its in my back yard. The first time you can spend 2-3 days getting all the field names, rotation, slopes and distance to water inputted. Snap Maps from a couple years ago is great and saves lots of time highlighting spreading restrictions and field borders. Need a good internet connection which is why they have classes at Tech schools . Since you know your fields better than anyone, you may catch something an outsider would miss. Year 2 will be a piece of cake as you download any new soil tests and add the up coming rotation. Time well spent. | |
