Pinconning MI | The key is to work with an agronomist that recognizes when you have 90% base saturation calcium your CEC is most likely exagerated and therefore a different test to determine "actual" CEC is warrented. Then you can determine a little better what the plant is seeing. The CEC is always a calculated figure on a regular soil test. One question is, is the lab using all the cations, including H in the calculation. With a pH of 8 you will never achieve what Kinsey calls balance. This is what Albrecht was refering to. Albrecht was the mentor of the consulting group that utilizes Brookside Laboratories Inc. Nobody knows that philosophy better than those guys. There is alot of variability in soils and their ability to adsorb nutrients. A good agronomist will now how to handle variablity in your fields and will use combinations of soil and tissue analysis to provide economically sound rec's.
I have soils which I consult on that have CEC of 140. How is this possible? Its not, the actual CEC is about 20 and for example the K% was not .56 is was more like 5.0. Some soils can be "balanced" economicaly and some cant. Work with someone who can tell the difference. | |
