Subject: RE: Deer damage to corn

nw NC
Deer and coons here also. Deer on the outside rows of my small fields, coons inside the field about 15 to 20 rows in and tear a lot of it down.
As for deer , a couple of years ago I bought a package ( several bars ) of Irish spring bath soap. Irish Spring is quite aromatic and I had heard deer stayed away from gardens that people had hung bars of soap along the edge of their gardens. I put a bar in a bucket of water over night . Next day I put the water in a backpack sprayer and walked the perimeter of a small corn field spraying the soapy water onto the corn at ear height. It appeared to me that deer did not work that area much after that. I'll try it again when my next corn is shooting ears.
