Subject: RE: Running ethernet cable to outbuilding

Central, IA
I’ve started laying fiber between all my buildings. I ran a line 2000’ to my house earlier this spring. On a per conductor basis, Single mode fiber is actually cheaper the copper.

Preterminated fiber is fairly affordable. Bury a pipe and pull it through. You can get ubiquity converters for $30 to go from Ethernet to fiber. Mechanical connectors are available to terminate without a fusion splicer. I ended up buying an affordable fusion splicer.

I’m guessing wireless is the affordable solution if you are connecting only a link or two.

You will need to connect after the router.
