I came to te same conclusion, believing that my desktop computer had no wi-fi capability, but I discovered that it was only disabled in the device manager. I can only assume it was because of bugs, so a wi-fi card or a USB wi-fi adapter isn't a bad idea. I'd warn against the cheap ones, because half of the ones I've tried don't work very well.
