We run a coil packer behind the feild cultivator if it’s not too wet. It firms the top our fluffy sandy soil. Planter row units ride on top and do not leave trenches. Not as dramatic results the heavier the soil gets. In fluffy ground it definitely makes the tractor pull harder. Not the same a a roller.
As for your crop, are you getting a poor stand? Or a good stand and poor yields?
