Subject: Mechanized ration mixing? Do you use a penn state shaker box?

How often do you use it and what procedure, or what method of collecting the whole feed to put through the shaker do you use? How many places along the bunk do you test?

I have been away from direct involvment in the livestock industry for many years. Recently I have been noticing an all too popular trend of relocating our livestock operations a long ways away. While most all non-livestockmen that I visit with on this issue say so what, I see it as being a huge detriment to the local agriculture as a whole. The non-livestockmen loose many rotational crops and,...well,......................another discussion.

So I am trying to better understand some of the modern methods and current needs of the livestock industry. Mainly focusing on cattle and dairy at that. Mainly because we're too late to save the others locally. They're allready gone.

Once I was made aware of the shaker box and its many uses, I started asking questions and was simply.........well, just plain ol' amazed at what an impact that simple little plastic screen setup has made. I'm still learning of more uses for the tool, but the importance of timely usage right down to having it in the field when chopping, is absolutely amazing.

So I wanted to ask here how many use one and how do you use it? Allways looking to learn more new stuff.

Thanks.
