Subject: Will a disk really destroy no-till soil structure

If I run a disk set to no deeper than 1" deep across bean stubble in the fall, I don't see how I can impact the soil structure beyond that one inch depth.  Yes I will disturb the surface residue as that is the goal, for quicker warm up and dry down in the spring, but if I have this great soil structure below 1", and get a frost down 6"+ to remove any compaction from the disc, what am I destroying that will affect those corn roots going down into the soil next year?  Fire away.
