Ear tags, yes some of them fall off, but usually not so many at the same time they can't get matched back up. Ranch I worked for one winter had some bad tags or something, lost about half the eartags that had been put in one year. Maybe something else was wrong, but they knew they were all the same age, the only important part. The ones where you write the number in don't hold up as well as the stamped numbers.
The only thing that has to have a permenant individual ID are my wife's purebred cows. She tatooes the ear somehow with an individual ID number. | |
