| I believe sucess in dairy farming is not really related to the milk price or cow price at anyone point in time. Like eddie says, milk prices cycle terribly and personally I think the cycles will become more and more violent in the next decade.
What matters is that you can consistantly produce a hundred pounds of milk more cheaply than your peers. If you can do that, you will be OK long term no matter the price. If you can't, then you are SOL before you even start IMO.
You should ask yourself what is it about you or your operation that will allow you to produce milk more cheaply than your peers long term? If you don't have an answer, I would caution you to do some more thinking about this venture.
Good Luck.
