SW Idaho | Don't know who started it or even if there was a person/persons, but they wanted thicker wider hogs and the best way to do that is with a moderate framed hog. I do like the look of a super wide hog but like you don't care for the look of a pug or also known as a toad. They look like a 200lb hog but actually weigh 260lb. Biggest problem I have had with them is soundness. With all that weight on a little frame they tend to go down at market weights. And yes breeding has been a problem with these types of boars. Not really the short legs but all the product they carry on them. Hard for them to stand on two legs very long and they are not tall enough to allow half the weight to rest on the sow. | |
