Subject: RE: How many live on Gravel roads.

Pilot Grove, Missouri
No public gravel roads to get to town but have a 1/2 mile gravel lane of my own to maintain. Bad thing is it's rolling hills and it sits below the neighbor's fields on both sides in several spots so it's hard to keep it from washing down the tracks in hard rains. Growing up it was my job to grade it with the D17 and 6' snap coupler back blade...when I moved back here and built a new house in 2015 I bought a 8' box blade to maintain it. Thought I died and went to heaven compared to a regular blade. It had not been well maintained until I moved back. I had have fully graveled it from end to end twice with 1.5" road rock since moving back plus some touch up loads. Few more spots still need some extra base built up as they get bad in late winter/early spring. Once I get to where I'm no longer getting ruts, I'll move down to 1" road rock to maintain. Tire costs per mile are certainly higher vs. when I lived on all pavement in the burbs.
