Saronville NE | I have a farm that we planted to a sweet leaf cane the 1st of June, took first cutting off it about the 10th of july or so, then we went really dry, well it has come back again and actually looks thicker than 1st cutting, is about 5-6 ft tall. How do you think this would be for silage? Am thinking about windrowing it first, lettin it lay a few days then come in and chop it with our chopper and a pickup head. What are you thoughts on this, the main reason we are considering it, is the weather forcast doesnt look friendly this fall for cane, to cool, and now finally after were done irrigating it wants to start and keep raining. !st cutting layed for 2 weeks to get it dry and we never even got a sprinkle on it, but doesnt look like we are going to get this lucky this time.
Another question this farm is 15 miles from my place and we allready cut corn silage and dont really need it and have a neighbor intrested in it, what is it worth? I was going to windrow it for him and chop it for him, but he was going to use his own trucks, what is that worth also?
We cut cane for silage yrs ago when I was a kid and it made good silage but think it was a cane just for silage cause it was like 10 ft tall or so, know it was way taller than the 4320 dad used on the old 35 chopper at the time. So will this sweetleaf cane be as good of silage? Im talkin about 40 acres of this stuff or so. | |
