Saronville NE
WE used some distillers last winter and got along good, but dont feed enuff cattle to use it quick enuff, so not going to use it this winter. Over the summer here, just been feeding ground corn with some protein pellets with ruminsin in it along with a mixture of old last yrs alfalfa ground with new alfalfa, and a bale of course CRP type hay for filler and a scratch for there gut. Start with 3-4 lbs of corn and move it up to about 10 lbs before we sell them at 850 lbs or so, this keeps them nice and green and growing a little slower like 2.5 lbs a day what we been avg. last few pens, the green cattle like ours always sell better then the guys here localy that push them and get them kinda fleshy, buyers like green cattle and will pay for it IMO.
We never got as good as gain outa hand feeding them corn and free choice ay either, besides the expensive waste of hay outa a bale ring, seemed like they liked to get hay bellies if you fed them to gooda alfalfa. We went from doing it this way to mixing with a auger mixer wagon with scales, and our intake went up as well as the ADG. We got a bigger better mixer wagon last summer and even that gained us almost 7 lbs of consumption PHPD over our old wagon and cattle seemed to do better.
