| Yep, can't beat a roller mill for cracking corn. Hammer mills were fine for grinding earcorn. We set our rollermill just tight enough to make sure that at least 95% of the kernals are cracked. Some kernals a guy has to inspect a bit to make sure the seed coating has a crack in it, but that is all that is required for proper digestion in steers. Much prefer to have a course as possible than too fine.
Be sure to keep checking your grind. Adjustments need to be made occasionally as moisture changes - especially when working on the edge of the envelope on your grind. Wetter corn requires tighter roll settings. | |
