Texas & western Iowa | That's a great pic.
About a month ago, I heard one in the woods behind my house here in north central Tx, which is very unusual for this particular area. It's usually horned owls here.
The last time I heard a barred owl before just recently was ~ 30 years ago in the piney woods of deep east Tx. That has to be one of the eeriest calls in the bird world.
